Straight Catheters
Straight catheters are part of intermittent catheterization, the periodic emptying of the bladder with a sterile catheter each time a person caths. This allows catheter users to prevent dangerous UTIs. Comfort Medical provides gentle catheters with smooth, fire-polished eyelets to cut down on the instance of urethral trauma that can cause the formation of scar tissue or strictures.
Coudé Catheters
Coude catheters are similar to straight catheters, but have a slightly curved tip used to navigate around obstacles like enlarged prostate or urethral strictures. These catheters are used primarily by men.
Closed-Kit System
A proven method to prevent and resolve repeated UTIs and other types of infection, this method is the safest form of catheterization. These systems are completely sterile, and come with supplies that ensure that the catheters do not come into contact with any bacteria before entering the bladder.
Also known as condom or “Texas” catheters, these catheters are worn continuously throughout the day and/or night to help prevent leakage from the bladder. They conveniently roll over the penis like a condom, and are attached to a discreet collection bag.
Indwelling Catheters
These catheters are often called internal or foley catheters, and are generally inserted by a medical professional. They look similar to intermittent catheters, but are designed to remain in the bladder for long periods of time. These catheters typically remain in the bladder for 3-4 weeks depending on a physician’s instructions of care.
